Accepted Solution

preroll frequency and user sessions

The preroll frequency is set at 3 per session. Our app does a lot of page refreshes which leads to prerolls getting shown on every video since the session gets reset on every page refresh.  I've looked at the ad translater extension for the video player and that seems like it would do the trick.  I was wondering if there was a much simpler solution.  Couldn't I just use javascript to keep track of session videos and apply the preroll frequency rules?

Re: preroll frequency and user sessions

Hi Chris,

I just wrote an article that will be going up on the dev center soon that solves your exact problem and gives you some code to start with as well. This will be the URL when it goes up (should be soon): http://help.brightcove.com/developer/topics/advertising/global-ad-policy.cfm

Re: preroll frequency and user sessions

any chance I will see it today?  I'm really curious.  Perhaps you could sumarize it or say yes go with javascript or no use the ad translater extension.  I see no reason to go with javascript for what I want but perhaps I am missing something in the big picture of things.

Re: preroll frequency and user sessions

There's now an API which allows you to do this and which allows you to use a non-default translator: http://support.brightcove.com/en/docs/dynamically-setting-ad-policy
