Chromeless Player based on BEML?

Hello,

I just noticed the Brightcove 4 release and saw that the new upcoming features include a chromeless player with fading player controls.  Is it known whether this will be based on BEML somehow?  Also, are there any more details on this player and how the fading behavior happens (i.e., is it fade in/out on hover over a VideoDisplay or something similar?).

Thanks - looks like a great set of features coming up!

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

This is an out of the box player template we are committed to delivering by the end of the year. It is not finalized yet, but it will be a BEML component, configurable for size, skins and styles initially, with more configurability planned for the future. The controls will fade in over the video display as the user mouses over, similar to how the custom player works on our site: http://www.brightcove.com/en/video-platform.

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

Thanks for the quick reply Todd,

The video player at that link doesn't appear to show/hide the controls on mouseover, but it's good to know that it's coming.  Will this feature support all the themes that are currently available for skinning players?

Thanks

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

That player should show/hide while the video is playing. But it is a custom player and isn't the exact same as the OOB player we will provide, so perhaps it wasn't the best example anyway.

We are still finalizing the theming that will be available with the new player, but it should support multiple themes and color styling, yes.

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

Even if it's not exactly the same, thanks for the example. Will the default cromeless player be widescreen like the one in the link? That would be preferable; we don't yet have access to BEML and would like to use the cromeless player with out letterboxing.

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

It will be resizable, just like our current Video Player, so you can make it any size required.

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

Any rough timeline you could provide on this feature would be immensely helpful.  We are currently trying to implement something using BEML MediaControls and either setVisible or setAlpha and neither works properly according to the documentation to hide the MediaControls.  Do you have a recommendation for something in the interim until the chromeless controls are available?

Thanks

We are committed to delivering by the end of the year. Beyond that I cannot say, sorry.

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

I see that there is a ChromelessVideoPlayer item in the BEML component documentation. This is great news!  It isn't clear from the documenation whether this element works in conjunction with MediaControls.  Will it use a MediaControls component if it exists?

Thanks

Re: Chromeless Player based on BEML?

No, the ChromelessVideoPlayer component contains its own built-in controls, just like the VideoPlayer component. We hope to open this up to be more customizable in the future, though.
