Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

I've updated the Player Templates help topic with the dimensions of the video player and non-player elements of each of our standard player templates.

I'm very pleased that we're able to improve the help, with input from both inside and outside Brightcove. Thanks to BC-ChrisD and davidtruog, who provided the information!

Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

Todd mentioned this in a previous response... "all global templates should be resizable except for the two tabbed players (Tabbed Navigation and Compact Tabbed Navigation)."

Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

Sadly, it appears that players to not resize using fixed increments, so the numbers in that table appear to be incorrect. Specifically, I placed a 480x270 video in the player that BC calls "Widescreen with Video Text List" which has a default player size of 480x215 for a default picture size of 302x170. So I added 178 and 45 to the picture width and height, respectively, making the player 658x315. But this size did not fit the larger videos, even though the aspect ratio (1.78:1) is the same as the default size picture's aspect ratio. So I did some trial-and-error experimenting and it appears that the correct size for that player, when playing video that is 480x270, is 762x318 (judging it by eye). I don't see what the relation is between those dimensions and the default dimensions, since they have different player aspect ratios. This came up in the context of an email exchange I'm having with Derek, of BC Tech Support, so once Derek finds the correct answer, I will gladly post it here. Until then, don't trust the table -- use trial and error instead, unfortunately.

Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

Not solved yet, but Derek did point me to this useful page in the documentation which lists all those increments that I had to calculate. It's here starting with the simple Video Player, but scroll down for all the others. Don't know whether this info was just added, or was there all along but nobody on this thread knew about it. Derek is doing some further research to figure out how those numbers change when the video dimensions are other than the defaults. Will post results here when available.

Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

Are tehre any updates yet?  It has been 3 years and I can't find anything about how or if you can put 16x9 videos into the "Video Player with Dropdown Navigation" and have it sized appropriately so it can go beyond 230px vertically.  Someone please help!

Re: What pixel dimensions for which players?

This document shows what the dimensions are of all the components, and the Video Display.

The borders and controls will stay the same when resized, so hopefully this will help you to calculate the size you need.
