Flash-Only Player via API playing working but not displaying in IE8?

Hi,

I've got a dilly of a pickle here. We use a custom built Flash-only Player JS API set-up to control our BC deployment. Recently, we moved the system to a Wordpress site, as a template level in-page application. So that all the JS script executes on the page level, instead of the much more restrictive post level.

Everything is working fine and as expected in all situations except for in IE8, where the player doesn't show up on the page at all. Now, the player is loaded  and begins to stream - as confirmed by both watching the feedback in the player debugger and via seeing the on-page callbacks relating to playback firing without issue - the player just won't show up for display.

In fact if you right click on the video player area, you can't see any indication that Flash is loaded where is supposed to be.

As I mentioned, this is super-browser specific for IE8 only, and is not an issue in IE7,IE9,FF or Chrome.

Live URL can been seen at: http://www.teletoon.com/blogs/en/atnight/video/ - please note that player is geo-blocked on a page level to traffic from Canada.

Any help or insights into what might be happening in this odd situation would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Flash-Only Player via API playing working but not displaying in IE8?

So I can't see the player, as I am not in Canada, but because it's IE I have a thought...  I know that with some versions of IE, if you have two or more object IDs with the same value, the players will not show up.

Could this be the problem?

Thanks

Re: Flash-Only Player via API playing working but not displaying in IE8?

Hi Jonathan,

That's a good thing to check. We do add a custom name to the player when it's called on-page. This done by using player+number of videos consumed, with a default value of "player0". I've also tried changing this to see if an even more custom player name might solve the issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have any effect.

The oddest thing to me is that the issue is restricted to IE8, and does not occur in IE7, which makes this esp. hard to identify.

Thanks again.

Re: Flash-Only Player via API playing working but not displaying in IE8?

As of Thursday this week (May 10, 2012) NO Brightcove media will display on any of my PCs. I changed nothing. I've reloaded code from previous shows that "worked" and - nothing. I tried to click on the Brightcove suggested thumbnails page - nothing. Win XP Pro SP2, Windows Vista Basic and Windos 7 Ultimate:  IE8, IE9, Google Chrome - nothing. However, it plays back fine in Safari, Firefox iPhone and iPad. www.mauitvnews.com.

Any ideas?

Re: Flash-Only Player via API playing working but not displaying in IE8?

Hello,

I just tested this link on a Windows and Mac machine; both are playing fine.  But if you are still seeing issues then I recommend you submit a support ticket at https://support.brightcove.com/en/contact/create

I hope this helps.

Thanks
