I created a custom player Download Freeware that comes in different sizes. it can be 620 x 524 or 300 x 300 depends on the width / height passed in the embeded code.

my question is

Should i encode the video provide 620 wide video now instead of 480 wide?

You can create custom rendition sizes to match your players if you want to.

I would recommend testing one of your videos with a standard size as well as with the custom size to see if the video quality looks better.
