Brightcove iTunes Podcast / Feed Solution!

Hi Guys,

I've created a Brightcove iTunes feed. This is a podcast that users can subscribe to. It will update accordingly, and although its rather small and quick, should get everyone started with very minimal effort. I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone that Brightcove Support won't exactly be fully supporting this, as this is completely custom. But please ask your questions here, and I will  do my best to answer them as quickly as possible. All of the instructions are within the file itself, and it should be easy enough for even the most non technical user to be able to implement.

Thanks for this great code!! I have been waiting for this for a long time.

I have tested the code and it works, yet when i use my own token with flv access itunes returns:

error on line 1: the entity name must immediately follow the & in the entity reference

Do you know where this comes from? 

My rss feed works:

Thanks for your reply. I attempted to validate the feed using feedvalidator.org and came up with some interesting results;

You should check out that link, and see if you can resolve some of the issues that the feed validator is reporting. It looks like some foreign characters may be messing you up in some places, and thus, invalidating the feed. 

You could also start out with a bit of a smaller data group. This way, you can be sure that what you are testing is small and light enough to debug. 

You may also be missing some params, from what I've seen in the feed, some fields are completely blank, which you may want to fix.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work. The feed comes back empty. When I view source, there is an error:

Hey guys,

We have a great little feed returning now at http://www.escn.tv/itunes/ESCNitunesfeed.php5

However, the inherent problem still remains - we're pulling the URLs to FLV video files.... which iTunes can't use! We need mp4 or mov for iTunes.

Any ideas???

Hey Lucas,

One of the requirements, in orde to work with iTunes, is that the content you upload is either already in H.264 format, or is trans coded using Brightcove's trans code servers into the H.264 format. You have this option when you upload files through either Batch, or the Media Module. Let me know which upload method you use, and I can provide you with a specific example for that method. Otherwise, the PHP file looks great, good luck with it!

I'm uploading H.264 videos and having them transcoded into several iterations at different bitrates in h.264 by Brightcove.

Would anything need to be changed in your example to make sure the Feed Generator is pulling the h.264?

I am now just having difficulties updating the information in FeedBurner... Or actually it is showing fine in FeedBurner, but iTunes can't register any videos anymore. Does anyone know why?

Hi Maggie,

Unfortunately, the feed you provided does not contain any data that is required by iTunes to link up your titles and allow for download of your content. I would recommend you read the link to the article above to familiarize yourself with the Apple requirements.
