2 questions about video publishing

[ Edited ]

Hello! I have some problems, and need answers from you:

1. When the delivery method is set to streaming - personal loans online t seems that video is not being downloaded to cache, when the user pauses it. When the metgod is set to progressive download - it is being downloaded when paused, but then it's not possible to jump to parts of the video not yet downloaded. In services like YouTube and Vimeo the advantages of both methods are combined - videos are being cached and they can be fast forwarded. Is such configuration possible on Brightcove?

2. Is is possible to have videos delivered via our own player (not just the skin, but totally different player)?

Re: 2 questions about video publishing

Hi,

We don't support psuedo-streaming right now, the name often given to jump to a non-buffered point of a progressive video.  It is something we've considered and would be higher on the list if more people do want this.  Note that progressive video does have some other disadvantages, such as not allowing dynamic stream switching.

We are actually looking this week at supporting in-stream buffering of streaming videos, but we're not sure yet on the details of what exactly will be buffered and how this will be enabled.

Another option you have is Akamai HD, which is like HLS in that it segements up a progressive video to act more like a streaming video.  I don't know the exact caching mechnaism, but I assume it behaves like progressive.

What other player are you looking to use?  We're always curious to know what people are finding they can't do with the Brightcove player.  We do not have an API for all functionality that's in our player to use a completely different player.  Most people do still use our player, even if they want very custom functionality, and just use the VideoDisplay (http://developer.brightcove.com/en/articles/video-display).  If you want to use a completely custom player, your only option right now is to load videos and playlists through the media APIs (http://support.brightcove.com/en/docs/getting-started-media-api).  This does not work for videos with any security, however, such as those with TTLs.
